- Purpose: DN was hired by the Dominion Energy to build a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tank in New Canton, VA. The TES tank is a key component of the Bear Garden Power Station, a 580 MW combined-cycle natural gas facility. This system was designed to improve the plant's efficiency and peak power output, particularly during the hot summer months. The TES system works alongside a gas turbine inlet chiller building. It stores cold water produced during off-peak hours (like at night) to cool the intake air for the gas turbines during the hottest parts of the day. By cooling the inlet air, the system increases the air's density, allowing the turbines to operate more efficiently and produce more electricity when demand is highest.
